The premier league officially begins today on the 16th of August 2024, the first match between Manchester United against Fulham at Old Trafford kick-off at 3pm ET/ 8pm BST. Manchester United didn’t have one of the best seasons last season. In fact, it dropped to its worst-ever Premier League finish in eighth place and closed the campaign with a negative goal difference despite beating Brighton 2-0 away game. Fulham, on the other hand, finished in the 17th place.
Manchester United managed to get 9 points from a possible 21 points in their opening matches last season. This again isn’t the best of the starts. As the new premier league starts today and as a Manchester United fan, there seems to be very little glimpse of hope with the club. Moreover, the manager himself has made claims that the team isn’t ready yet. On the preparedness of the club for the new season.
The manager said the following, “We had the USA Tour squad and we’ve added the players who were at the Euros and Copa América and now the new signings, and now we have to make a team from that. That team is not ready but the league starts.”As a United fan, this is the least I would expect to hear from the person who has been in charge for over two seasons now. These are the same bunch of players he has been training for the same period of time. It is unforgivable to say the least, if they don’t challenge for the league title this season.
Manchester United have been able to make new signings whom we believe will help to improve the performance of the team. Admittedly, they have had a very busy summer, both on and off the field. We’re excited to welcome Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna for 42m, Leny Yoro from Lille for 62m (injured), Matthis de Ligt, and Noussair Mazraoui both from Bayern Munich for 45m and 15m, respectively, to the club—four outstanding talents with promising futures here. We’re also thrilled that our club captain, Bruno Fernandes, has signed a new contract to stay with United until 2027 with an option for a further year, and Erik ten Hag has extended his contract following our FA Cup victory.
Van Nistelrooy’s coaching impact at Man Utd is impressive and making a difference. While he was a coach at PSV, he helped to develop Cody Gakpo. Speaking to Noni Madueke. Players will undoubtedly be drawn to him because he is such a prominent figure. I believe he has strong tactical insights as a coach as well. He’s a legend in the sport, so it was a privilege to work with him. He significantly improved my attacking skills, and he remains an exceptional finisher.
Additionally, Dan Ashworth has joined as Sporting Director and Jason Wilcox as Technical Director. We’re building a strong and talented football structure to support Erik and focus on long-term success. Alongside this, we’re also aiming to develop a world-class non-football leadership team to help the club thrive.
Conversely, quite a number of players have been released from the club duties. Greenwood, Wan-Bissaka, Willy Kambwala, Alvaro Carreras, Van de Beek, Varane, Omari Forson, Martial, Brandon Williams, and Amrabat are no longer with the club. More transfer would still have by the time the window closes as there are rumours that PSG are seeking the services of Marcus Rashford having released Kylian Mbappe Lottin to Real Madrid on a free transfer. Jadon Sancho is also an option.
Leicester City, Ipswich Town, and Southampton are the newly promoted teams joining the Premier League. Leicester, the 2015-16 champions, and Southampton have been regulars in the Premier League in recent years, while Ipswich is making a comeback after 22 years away. Ipswich Town under Kieran McKenna’s leadership became the first team since Southampton in 2012 to achieve consecutive promotions. This is the team to watch this season.
